The influence of Jewish Romanian cuisine in Montreal – talk by\u00a0Joshua Wolfe<\/strong><\/p>\n

Much of what Montrealers think of as typical Jewish cooking \u2013 smoked meat, brine pickles, steak spices \u2013 shows a strong Romanian influence. Joshua Wolfe\u2019s grandparents all immigrated from Romania before the First World War and ended up living in what is now known as Mile End. One grandmother ran a restaurant near the Main. Joshua will share some intriguing findings of his research and provide an overview of the history and culture of Jewish\u00a0cooking in general, the relationship between Kosher and non-Jewish cooking of the Balkans \u2013 and maybe even his grandmother\u2019s dishes.<\/p>\n
