In Montreal imagery, the Mile End neighbourhood is constantly in transition. Several different immigrant communities each contributed to the district’s transformation. The 1960s and 1970s was the time when newly arrived Greek immigrants left their mark. This panel will present a joint effort of a McGill University history department seminar on European immigration and Immigrec, a research project on Greek immigration to Canada. It will examine Greek Mile End from various perspectives:<\/p>\n
Tassos Anastassiadis<\/strong>, assistant professor of history at McGill and principal investigator at Immigrec, will present the oral history project conducted in Montreal’s Greek community.<\/p>\n Caroline Boreham<\/strong>, Immigrec research director, will present a digital map of Mile End that offers a visual portrait of the waves of Greek immigration to the neighbourhood.<\/p>\n Alex Grasic<\/strong>, history student and YMCA research assistant, will examine the Mile End West Project of the 1960s and 70s, during which the YMCA became involved in the Greek community.<\/p>\n Jean-Philippe Bombay<\/strong>, McGill history student, will analyze the mutual-aid networks that were created among workers from different ethnic and linguistic communities, placing particular attention to the connections among the Greek, Jewish and Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois communities.<\/p>\n Presentations in French, bilingual discussion period<\/p>\n Mordecai-Richler Library<\/strong>, 5434 Park Avenue In Montreal imagery, the Mile End neighbourhood is constantly in transition.
