Urban Agriculture in Mile End: Past and Present
(bilingual tour)

Unearth the hidden history of urban agriculture in Mile End! Come along on a unique two-hour walking tour through over 150 years of agricultural transformation in Mile End—from its 19th-century rural roots to today’s cutting-edge urban farming initiatives.

Along the way, your guide will uncover the stories behind old farms, orchards, and early agro-industry that once thrived in the neighbourhood. You’ll also learn about community gardens, green alleys, the proposed site of a future urban aquaponic centre, and other inspiring examples of ecological urban planning.

The tour wraps up with an exclusive visit to Agriculture du Coin, where you’ll get a firsthand look at modern hydroponic systems in action.

This tour is organized by the Agriculture du Coin boutique, and led by Melanie Leavitt, board member of the The Main and Mile End Memories.

Date and time: Sunday June 15, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m
Meeting point: 235 Laurier Avenue West, H2T 2N9
Cost: 20$, reserve here

Champ des Possibles en 2009, Marke Ambard

Before the Champ des Possibles:
Transformation of a Wasteland
At one time a cedar and beech forest, at another a quarry, a dump and an industrial rail yard, the land occupied by Champ des Possibles has a rich and varied history. It also neighbours the Réseau-Vert linear park, located on the other side of the railroad line, which was to be the first link in a green corridor stretching over 100 kilometres. While this major project never came to fruition, a number of citizen initiatives have taken over on both sides of the tracks. This tour will provide an update on the ongoing transformation of the post-industrial wastelands along the rail corridor, and the many challenges that remain.
Event organized in conjunction with Les Amis du Champ des Possibles

Your guide, Melanie Leavitt, is a member of the board of The Main and Mile End Memories. Activity organized jointly with Les Amis du Champ des Possibles.

Date and time: Sunday June 22, 2025, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

    Merci beaucoup
