Stanley Bagg’s Lost Horse
and other stories of a founding family of Mile End
Justin Bur, M.Urb.
Two hundred years ago, Stanley Bagg’s Mile End Tavern was already open for business, serving the farmers and sportsmen on the north side of Mount Royal, about two miles from town. Who was this Stanley Bagg, and how did his family become one of the largest landowners on the island of Montreal?
Justin Bur has been seeking the origins of Mile End for many years. Now, with the help of fellow researchers and one of Stanley Bagg’s descendants, he is finally able to present some answers, within the fascinating context of pre-Confederation Montreal.
