You are invited to participate in the last two CITIZENS’ CAFÉS on the development of Mile End’s Saint-Viateur East District. For the purposes of our discussions, this district is framed by the CPR tracks near Van Horne Avenue to the north, Saint-Laurent Boulevard(including the properties on both sides of the street) to the west, Laurier Avenue to the south and Saint-Denis Street to the east; the limits defined by the Plateau Mont-Royal Borough are slightly different. The future development of this district will have an impact on the entire Mile End neighbourhood as well as on the Main.
The CITIZENS’ CAFÉS on the following themes, which have attracted between 60 and 75 participants each, have raised several relevant points and innovative ideas:
Transportation: 19 January 2009
Housing: 26 January 2009
Culture: 9 February 2009
Economy/Services: 23 February 2009
The last two CITIZENS’ CAFÉS, which deal with more global themes, present an opportunity to revisit many of the ideas and points raised at the previous cafés, with a heritage and environmental perspective:
HERITAGE
Monday 9 March 2009, 7-9 p.m., at Café Cagibi, 5490 Saint-Laurent (corner of Saint-Viateur)
ENVIRONMENT / GREEN NEIGHBOURHOOD
Monday 23 March 2009, 7-9 p.m., at the Green Room, 5386 Saint-Laurent (just south of Saint-Viateur)
Everyone is welcome! Here’s your chance to share your ideas, to hear the ideas of others and to brainstorm about the development of this district. These CITIZENS’ CAFÉS are free and no advance registration is required.
You are also invited to participate in the presentation of a summary of these gatherings and the preparation of a series of recommendations during a CITIZENS’ FORUM on Sunday 26 April 2009, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at école Saint-Louis, 38 Fairmount Avenue East (corner of Saint-Dominique). The cost is $5 / person, or $20 / organization, company or institution, lunch included. Advance registration for the CITIZENS’ FORUM is obligatory, either in person at the citizens’ cafés or at the Park Avenue YMCA (5550 Park Avenue) or by email at comitecitoyenmileend@gmail.com. Daycare service is offered for children between 2 and 12; please specify your needs upon registration.
These activities are organized by the Mile End Citizens’ Committee, in collaboration with several other community groups and partners, including the Urban Ecology Centre of Montreal, Mile End Memories and Friends of Saint-Laurent Boulevard.
