Women march on Court House – Demonstrations protesting arrest of Dr. Henry Morgentaler on abortion charge, 2 June 1970 [John Daggett, Montreal Star / Library and Archives Canada PA-164027]
During this talk, we will look at the history of the Montreal Women’s Health Centre. Active since 1975, in the midst of the legal and political controversies of the times, the Centre has always actively campaigned for access to free abortion. It also introduced a new approach that promotes bodily autonomy and health management for and by women.
Our speaker, Melanie Leavitt, is a member of the Mile End Memories board of directors. She has been giving presentations and leading walking tours on women’s history, trade unionism, and Montreal’s garment industry since 2011.
