Presentation: Queer Mile End

Queer Mile End: Production of another LGBTQ+ neighbourhood

The recent creation of queer neighbourhoods outside of traditional gay villages suggest changes among LGBTQ+ generations and urban species in central cities. Based on a series of interviews among LGBTQ+ youth living in Mile-End in 2013, this presentation explores the process in the Montreal context.

Presentation by Julie Podmore, professor at John Abbott College and Part-Time Faculty Member and Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography, Planning and Environment of Concordia University. She is also an affiliated researcher with UQAM’s Research Chair on Homophobia. A social geographer by training, she is interested in the formation of LGBTQ+ spaces in the city.
