A FEW ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM MILE END MEMORIES:

1. The next activity of Mile End Memories will take place on Saturday 1 October 2011, as part of the Journées de la culture and the Montreal Architectural Heritage Campaign.

Rialto Theatre Restoration Project
Ezio Carosielli and Pierre Beaupré, architect

The Rialto, a 1924 movie palace, is currently undergoing restoration that will gradually bring back its original splendor. The current owner, Mr. Ezio Carosielli, will speak of his intention to make the theatre accessible to the Mile End and Montreal community. The architect Mr. Pierre Beaupré will present the architectural choices made for the restoration of this building – a heritage site both federally and provincially – but which has been modified over the years with less concern for its architectural heritage. The presentation will be followed by an opportunity to walk around the theatre. A light snack will be served.

Saturday 1 October 2011, from noon to 2 pm

2. Also during the Journées de la culture, the collective Ouvert/Open is organizing two activities about community projects along the Mile End railway corridor.

3. La Société d’histoire et de généalogie du Plateau Mont-Royal is presenting a lecture on Sunday 25 September.

Le parc La Fontaine – son histoire, ses usages et ses publics (1874-1940)
Michèle Dagenais, professor of history at Université de Montréal

This lecture will review the important periods in the history of La Fontaine Park from the point of view of the people who used it and the activities that occurred there (political, recreational, and cultural), from its origins at the end of the 1870s until the mid-20th century.
